Critical Care

Our Critical Care service uses technology and advanced skills to monitor, diagnose, and treat animals with acute or chronic illness. The most severe and life-threatening emergencies are managed in our critical care unit, and the emergency and critical care veterinarians work closely with other specialists to provide the best patient care and treatment. Staff members realize that each pet is accompanied by a concerned owner, and they understand the fears that owners experience when a beloved pet is in critical condition.

This service is fully staffed and available during regular business hours, 6 days a week. The veterinary team is trained to assess and treat pets that become ill and how to handle life-threatening emergencies. Some common emergencies include hit by a car, falling from heights, profuse vomiting or diarrhea, difficulty breathing, seizures, and toxin ingestion. While some patients can be treated and released the same day, others must be admitted for further stabilization. Patients with life-threatening illnesses or injuries are admitted to our referral critical care unit for close monitoring and advanced life support measures.

The unit is staffed by veterinarians and certified technicians with advanced training in emergency and critical care. They provide excellent care for each patient and utilize a variety of advanced monitoring and diagnostic tools:

24-hour fluid therapy
Oxygen therapy
Pain management
Blood Pressure monitoring
Blood transfusion therapy
Capnography
Pulse oximetry
Tonometry
Blood gas, coagulation, complete blood count, and chemistry analyzers
