Melissa Kuhrt, DVM - attended Washington State University (WSU) and received her Bachelor of Science in Zoology, then pursued her Veterinary Degree also at WSU. After graduating from Vet School, she started full time employment as an associate Veterinarian in September 2011 at The Animal Clinic and Hospital in Moscow Idaho. While practicing in Idaho, Dr. Kuhrt received extensive training and experience in the areas of soft tissue surgery, ultrasound procedures, and exotic animal medicine, all of which she has a passion for doing. Dr. Kuhrt also spearheaded the preceptor program at her clinic and acted as a mentor for many veterinary students partaking in preceptorships sponsored by the WSU Veterinary Medicine Program. She, her husband (Matt), and their two talented children, Cameron and Kailee moved to Tucson, Arizona in October 2022 and began her full-time employment at Monument East Veterinary Hospital as an associate Veterinarian.
Prior to becoming a Veterinarian, Dr. Kuhrt was a Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) with the Animal Clinic and Hospital starting in 2001. Dr. Kuhrt has over 20 years of experience working in the veterinary medicine field.
Being born and raised in Kailua, Hawaii, Dr. Kuhrt has a love for the ocean, and anything associated with water. Dr. Kuhrt and Matt have spent a lot of time traveling, with destinations such as the Caribbean, United Kingdom, Italy, Greece, Canada, and of course Hawaii. Since the arrival of their children, they have continued their passion for travel and enjoy the opportunity for their kids to see new places and experience different cultures.
In her free time, Dr. Kuhrt enjoys crafting, listening to pod casts (Scared to Death and Time Suck among her favorites), spending time with her family, and exploring the beautiful sights Arizona has to offer.
Dr. Kuhrt’s non-human family consists of a German Shorthaired Pointer (Ike), an English Bulldog (Tsunami), and an incorrigible cat (Buttercup). In the past Dr. Kuhrt has owned, fostered, or cared for many species of animals to include rats, rabbits, chickens, goats, horses, and hedgehogs.
Fun Fact: Dr. Kuhrt loves rollercoasters and rates The Timber Terror at Silverwood Theme Park as her favorite, followed up by X-Scream at the top of the Stratosphere.
